Why I Use Ultrasound-assisted Liposuction

Many patients are surprised to learn that I offer ultrasound-assisted liposuction at my Chicago practice in addition to traditional liposuction. I have found this technique to be highly effective for fat removal for several reasons, including:

  • Easier and gentler techniques. Traditional liposuction is performed by manually moving a small cannula back and forth under the skin to loosen fat cells for removal. Ultrasound-assisted liposuction uses ultrasonic waves and a vibrating cannula to break up fat deposits and liquefy them. This makes fat removal easier, and there is less trauma to surrounding tissues.
  • Better skin tightening. The ultrasound energy used during ultrasonic liposuction stimulates skin contraction, which leads to smoother results. This can decrease the chance of skin rippling or wrinkling after treatment.
  • Precise body contouring. Ultrasonic liposuction is ideal for targeting specific areas of the body that need correcting, such as the neck, knees, abdomen, hips and thighs. I can even use ultrasound-assisted liposuction to help “fine-tune” certain areas that need more precise contouring.
