The Top Doctor® Difference

The Top Doctor® Difference

I recently received the honor of recognition as a Top Doctor by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., a group dedicated to helping consumers find the best healthcare providers in dozens of medical specialties. Many of my plastic surgery patients in Las Vegas have heard of the Top Doctor designation before, but they don’t always know what it means for them and their physicians.

Regional & National Top Doctors

Castle Connolly offers 2 distinctions: Physicians known for their leadership in their local communities and metropolitan areas receive Regional Top Doctor honors, and those who have a broader influence across the nation earn National Top Doctor recognition.

The Selection Process

Castle Connolly invites licensed physicians in the United States to nominate fellow doctors who excel in their medical specialties, either regionally or nationally. A physician-led research team confirms the credentials of the nominees. Among other things, they look for:

  • Medical education
  • Training
  • Board certifications
  • Hospital appointments
  • Administrative posts
  • Professional achievements
  • Malpractice/disciplinary history

How Patients Benefit

Physicians cannot nominate themselves or pay to join the ranks of Top Doctors, as they can with some less-than-reputable associations. Castle Connolly essentially asks qualified medical professionals whom they would trust for their medical needs. Patients can rest assured that each Top Doctor is respected by experts in the field, a helpful indicator of quality for anyone searching for a medical practitioner.

But patients should still do their research. Not all “top” or “best” doctor reports are equal to Castle Connolly’s standards. You can look up Top Doctors in your area at Castle Connolly’s website.
