Women who visit me with questions about getting breast implants in La Jolla know they want to increase the size or improve the appearance of their breasts. Even those who have made it to the point of consulting a plastic surgeon, though, often still ask me, “Are implants worth it?”
The results of a recent study answer that question with an overwhelming “Yes!”
According to a survey done by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons of 225 women who got implants, about 220 (98%) believe the results met or exceeded their expectations. About 205 women (91%) reported improved self-esteem, and about 145 (64%) said they felt the implants improved their quality of life.
The percentage of women who reported feeling self-conscious about their breasts fell from 86% before breast augmentation surgery to only 13% afterward.
Women who are unsure about whether surgery is right for them can take heart in one more extremely encouraging stat: About 99% of the women surveyed reported they would have breast augmentation surgery again.
If you are interested in enhancing your breasts, begin by consulting a few board-certified plastic surgeons.
