Rhinoplasty Recovery: What to Expect

When a patient contacts me about a Dallas rhinoplasty (or a “nose job”), he or she often wants to know what the recovery process is like.

Here’s what you can expect in the days, weeks and months following the surgery:

  • First 48 hours: You will see some bruising and swelling around the nose, cheeks and eyes. Using cool compresses will help soothe the area, as will the application of arnica and bromelain.
  • 5 to 7 days: For the first week or so, you will wear a splint to protect the nose as it heals. Prescription or over-the-counter pain medications can be used to control any discomfort.
  • 2 to 4 weeks: During this time, swelling will subside and the results will become much more visible.
  • 1 year: As healing continues, subtle changes and shifts in the nose can occur for over a year after the operation before we see the final result.

If you are interested in rhinoplasty , make sure to discuss the operation in detail with a board-certified plastic surgeon.
