Is Proximity to a Hospital Helpful?

When choosing a plastic surgeon, you have many factors to consider. While the doctor’s qualifications, experience, and demeanor certainly rank high on the priority list for most patients, there are other factors that can enhance your surgical experience. Having recently relocated my practice to a new office complex, I thought I’d share some thoughts on why it can be helpful to choose an Orange County plastic surgery practice that is located near a hospital.

  • Pre- and post-operative testing such as blood work, electrocardiograms, and mammograms is convenient.
  • Reconstructive surgery procedures can be streamlined. For example, when I perform immediate breast reconstruction, I can work closely with the patient’s cancer surgeon because the hospital is close to my office.
  • Access to emergency medical services 24/7 can enhance your peace-of-mind and safety.
  • Your plastic surgeon is readily accessible if your recovery requires a hospital stay.

While choosing an Orange County plastic surgeon whose office is close to a hospital might not be the main reason to choose a particular doctor, there are benefits in both convenience and safety to factor into your decision.
