Pregnancy after Tummy Tuck

The issue of pregnancy after a tummy tuck in Dallas is complicated. Although having a tummy tuck before you become pregnant will not be problematic for your pregnancy, it may affect the benefits from your procedure. The abdominal walls that were tightened during tummy tuck surgery are again stretched with pregnancy, thereby negating the effects of surgery. In addition, if a woman wants a second tummy tuck after having children, it is very difficult to obtain the same aesthetic results.

I normally do not perform tummy tuck surgery for patients who plan to become pregnant. However, some rare exceptions may occur, such as a woman who has experienced massive weight loss and requires a substantial amount of lax skin to be removed. In general, though, it is ideal to delay your tummy tuck until you have had your children.

If you are considering tummy tuck but plan to become pregnant, here are some thoughts to keep in mind:

  • Most women will require a second tummy tuck to restore their slimmer shape.
  • Having a tummy tuck may increase your risk for stretch marks during pregnancy because the skin is thinner.
  • It is very difficult to achieve the same aesthetic results from a second surgery.
