Tips for Minimizing Scars

I have dedicated a large portion of my career to studying wound repair. My research enables me to achieve more aesthetically pleasing results for my patients by employing a number of techniques that help reduce scarring.

In addition, there are certain things you can do to improve your results after procedures such as breast augmentation in Chicago, including:

1. Quit smoking

Smoking inhibits the body’s ability to heal itself. By kicking the habit, you can improve both your healing and your health.

2. Massage the area regularly

Gentle massage stimulates circulation and breaks up scar tissue, which encourages good healing.

3. Apply a silicone gel sheet or a scar cream that contains silicone

Silicone gel sheets moisturize the tissue, improve skin elasticity and flatten and fade scars. You may need to wear the sheet day and night for several weeks before improvements are visible. If scars are itching to the point of being uncomfortable, a follow-up appointment is recommended.

4. Consider laser skin resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing can work wonders to reduce scarring. Although multiple treatments are usually necessary for best results, just one session can greatly enhance your skin.
