One procedure I offer for men and women who don’t require a full tummy tuck in Chicago is a “mini” tummy tuck.
A mini tummy tuck is ideal for removing stubborn fat deposits and stretched skin in the area just below the bellybutton that often remain following pregnancy or a major weight loss. It differs from a full tummy tuck in the following ways:
- It requires just one, small incision in the pelvic area, whereas a full tummy tuck requires 2 incisions: one long, horizontal incision along the bikini line and another near the navel.
- It results in a smaller, more discreet scar, easily hidden by underwear or bathing suit bottoms.
- It requires a shorter recuperation period.
However, this procedure is recommended only for patients whose sagging skin is less severe and limited to a small area of the lower abdomen.Patients who need a more comprehensive tummy tuck can still expect a relatively short and comfortable recovery period. This is because I use local anesthetic and sedation for increased safety and fewer side effects with both procedures.
Patients considering either a mini or a standard tummy tuck in Chicago should consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon to determine which procedure is best for them.
