First Time With Fillers?

Although many patients come to me for a facelift in San Jose, others are interested in less-invasive treatments, such as injectables. Dermal filler injections are a great option for anyone who is looking to reduce wrinkles, improve facial volume or enhance the lips. The results are visible almost immediately and can last anywhere from 4 months to 2 years, depending on the type of product used.

If you are considering fillers for the first time, here’s what you need to know:

  • Plan ahead.

If you want to look your best for a big event, schedule your treatment 1 or 2 weeks in advance. This gives you time to heal and ensures that any bruising or swelling has resolved.

  • Avoid blood thinning substances beforehand.

Blood thinners such as aspirin, alcohol and certain prescription medications can cause some people to bruise more easily. I typically recommend that patients avoid blood thinning substances for 2 weeks before their treatments to help keep bruising to a minimum.

  • Consider complementary treatments.

Although it is possible to “spot treat” certain areas of the face using dermal fillers, the most dramatic results are achieved by combining dermal fillers with complementary treatments such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, laser skin resurfacing or chemical peels. This can provide better overall results with improvements in texture and tone that helps your skin look healthy and youthful.
