The popularity of breast augmentation is indisputable. At my plastic surgery practice near Chicago and across the nation, it is the most frequent cosmetic procedure performed. The reason is relatively simple: Women are overwhelmingly satisfied with their results. A recent study of 225 of a doctor’s breast augmentation patients found that 98% said the results either met or exceeded their expectations.
The study (and others with similar findings) shows that women enjoy both physical and psychological benefits after undergoing breast augmentation surgery.
The women surveyed were interviewed at least a month after their surgery. Some of the study’s results included:
- 92% of the patients reported improved self-esteem after breast augmentation.
- 64% said their quality of life was improved.
- 86% said that before the surgery, they were self-conscious about their breasts. After the surgery, that number dropped to 13%.
I also think it’s worth noting that getting breast implants is something women consider very carefully before undergoing surgery. None of these patients took this decision lightly. The survey said the average time the women thought about having breast augmentation before deciding to go ahead was more than 5 years.
