Sacramento Rhinoplasty for Mature Patients

Sacramento rhinoplasty can help patients as young as their teens or as old as their 80s refine the shape and appearance of their nose so that their features appear more proportionate. Unfortunately, many mature patients mistakenly assume that they cannot benefit from this procedure, or that their results would not be as attractive, simply because they are older. In fact, for the right patient and from the right surgeon, this procedure can be highly effective.

A few facts you need to know about Sacramento rhinoplasty for older patients:

  • Safety needs to come first: Your health habits and general condition directly impact your surgical results. Even for function-focused nose surgery procedures like septoplasty (surgical correction of a deviated septum), the patient needs to be healthy enough to undergo the surgical process, enjoy a normal, brief recovery period, and avoid complications. Typically, I will require patients to receive a full physical examination and discuss their general health habits with me before we decide on surgery.
  • Rhinoplasty techniques differ: As we age, the soft tissues in the nose tip settle into a lower position, so in some cases patients will need to have this area adjusted in order to create good results. Skin quality and a host of other factors also influence your outcome, so a Sacramento rhinoplasty surgeon needs extensive training to be able to provide accurate results that are personalized to patients’ needs. For patients of any age, rhinoplasty, face lift, or any other Sacramento cosmetic surgery procedure I perform is most effective when I can tailor the result to each patient.
  • Your results will heal and develop uniquely. A good surgeon will be able to help you shape your expectations based on your characteristics, specifically, and give you a good idea of what to expect in terms of healing times and results. If you have very thick skin, for example, he or she should explain how this characteristic will impact your results, and depending on your age and health history might give you a slightly longer time frame for recovery.

If you are considering rhinoplasty or any other cosmetic surgery procedure, I encourage you to research your surgeons – and surgical options – thoroughly. Board certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery is the first qualification of a good surgeon, but take the time to discuss your goals and concerns with multiple Sacramento rhinoplasty plastic surgeons before you choose one who offers the skill and insight that you need.
