Does Age Matter for Liposuction?

Liposuction, Nevada

By: Arthur M. Cambeiro, M.D.

Although age is not a deciding factor as to whether someone is a good candidate for liposuction in Las Vegas, it can affect the results. As we age, our skin loses elasticity and does not “spring” back into place as easily as it did when we were younger. When liposuction is performed on an individual who has poor skin elasticity, some contour irregularities or “rippling” can result.

I usually evaluate each of my patients’ skin quality during the initial consultation in order to determine if liposuction is a good solution. If it looks like the skin is too loose or lax for liposuction to be effective, I may recommend an additional lifting procedure.

Adding a Lift to Liposuction

Body lifting techniques offer multiple advantages because they remove both skin and fat while providing tightening benefits. Some examples of body lifting surgery include:

  • Arm lift
  • Thigh lift
  • Buttock lift
  • Breast lift
  • Lower body lift

These procedures usually include liposuction and are ideal for people with loose skin on the body. Many times, people who have lost a lot of weight are good candidates for body lifting techniques. During surgery, excess skin is removed to create a smoother body contour. When you receive a physical evaluation, you will be advised as to which procedure or combination of procedures would be most beneficial to you.
