Breast Augmentation, New Jersey

Every month, I talk with another woman who wants to learn more about breast augmentation in New Jersey but is concerned about the surgery. Either she thinks that weeks of recovery will take time from her busy schedule, or she doesn’t want to undergo the significant pain that many women think is a given for this procedure. At my practice at least, these concerns simply don’t reflect the reality of breast enlargement.

The truth is that over 90% of my breast augmentation patients are out of recovery and can begin to enjoy the results of their surgery within 24 hours of the procedure. Many return to normal activities in as little as 2 days. So if a surgeon is telling you to prepare for weeks of downtime and plenty of pain, I strongly encourage you to seek out a second (or even third) opinion.

The Difference is the Technique

The duration and comfort of your recovery is a direct result of your surgeon’s technical skill. While some breast augmentation surgeons in New Jersey will focus on post-operative tools such as pain pumps and ice packs to help women handle the pain after surgery, I work proactively, following “Rapid Recovery” surgical techniques that prevent tissue damage to minimize discomfort in the first place.

Most breast augmentation surgeons will use a “blunt” dissection technique, making a larger incision and then ripping the flesh to create the pocket that will contain the implant. This technique creates unnecessary bleeding, bruising, and tissue trauma, which makes recovery for many women a painful and discouraging process.

When I perform Rapid Recovery breast augmentation for New Jersey and Philadelphia women , I use electrocautery forceps, a state-of-the-art tool that allows me to seal blood vessels as I make the incision, limiting bleeding to less than 5 cc’s (about 1/50th of a cup) of blood on either side of the implant pocket. My patients have practically no inflammation or torn muscle, and less bruising and scarring.

Over 90% of my patients tell me they took 2 or 3 doses of a prescription painkiller after their procedures and then started taking Motrin. There really is practically no sustained discomfort.

Another doctor using the “blunt” method to perform breast augmentation in New Jersey tells his patients they will be in pain for over 3 weeks. Many patients of the “blunt” method cannot use their arms even to perform simple actions such as washing their hair. To me, putting women in this amount of unnecessary pain is outrageous.

By contrast, some of my patients have dubbed the Rapid Recovery method the “out to dinner” approach because they can return to everyday life so soon. Of course, you still need to be realistic about your expectations and you should not perform strenuous activities such as exercising soon after the surgery. Don’t push yourself to do activities that create too much discomfort, and keep in mind that you play an important role in the recovery process.

What You Bring to the Table

If you take a positive approach to recovery, and if you understand the procedure and follow recovery instructions precisely, you make the process much easier on yourself. Rapid Recovery allows my patients to get back to normal sooner partly because when they feel better, they help themselves become better.

In the end, the best plan for recovery is to choose a breast augmentation surgeon in New Jersey whose surgical methods and philosophy of care you can trust. You need to research carefully to find a surgeon who is committed to preventing bleeding and tissue damage before they occur, rather than just helping you deal with painful results. A surgeon who works to prevent pain demonstrates an active interest in helping you feel better sooner, and in helping you feel more satisfied with your surgery as a whole.
