As many as half of the men in the U.S. suffer from gynecomastia – abnormally feminine-looking breasts. Of the growing number of Maryland men who choose to correct this characteristic, most don’t know that plastic surgeons can take different approaches to male breast correction.
Gynecomastia results from a wide range of factors, so while some men only have large breasts because of fatty deposits in the chest, others have overdeveloped breast glands as well.
Unfortunately, many Baltimore male breast enhancement surgeons will take the same approach for you that they use for female breast reduction, which may be unnecessarily intensive and leave awkward scars.
At my Baltimore plastic surgery practice, I find that liposuction alone is generally sufficient to correct gynecomastia in most cases. I prefer the ultrasonic and tumescent methods because they involve less tissue damage and may give skin a firmer look, which is important to many male patients. In some cases it’s necessary for the surgeon to address the nipple and gland area, but not always.
Before you undergo gynecomastia correction, be sure to check with your surgeon to find out how procedures may be tailored to meet the needs of male patients.
