plastic surgery aftercare Advantages of Professional Aftercare

By: Holly Wall, MD, FACS

The majority of the Louisiana plastic surgery procedures I perform take place in the outpatient surgery center we have on-site at The Wall Center for Plastic Surgery. An increasing number of plastic surgeons are performing surgery in outpatient centers rather than hospitals, and while this makes it easier for patients to head home as soon as possible after surgery, there’s reason to consider having medically-supervised aftercare for at least a few days following surgery.

Here are just a few of the benefits of staying in a medically-supervised setting.

  • Peace of mind: When you stay in a recovery suite, private nurses are available 24 hours a day to attend to patient care and concerns. If a complication should arise, patients have immediate access to medical attention. Because recovery naturally can involve mental highs and lows, patients gain reassurance from being monitored by a nurse who can advise them as to whether their pain, swelling, or other after-effects are routine or cause for concern.
  • Privacy and discretion: Most conscientious aftercare facilities attend to the privacy of their clients, respecting their fragile condition and their desire to remain away from prying eyes during the initial recuperation.
  • Comfort: Modern surgical recovery suites routinely offer patients both physical and psychological comfort. Rooms are generally furnished with adjustable beds and luxury bedding, temperature controlled environments, and even offer a choice of a movie or peaceful music. An available nurse or sitter can assist with self-care such as using the restroom, bathing, and brushing teeth. Giving you a break from your busy household and hectic schedule while making it easier to adhere to recommended restrictions on activity means that you can focus on getting better faster.

Patients without adequate recovery assistance often take longer to recover and experience more complications. At The Wall Center for Plastic Surgery, we have the pleasure of offering our Louisiana plastic surgery patients a certified surgery center and medically-supervised, onsite luxury guest suites all under one roof.
