Top 5 Myths and Misconceptions about Liposuction after Pregnancy

measure_belly Top 5 Myths and Misconceptions about Liposuction after Pregnancy

1. Liposuction is a “lazy mom’s” weight loss method

Despite frequent misrepresentation in the media, Los Angeles liposuction is simply not a weight loss method. It is most effective for specific lumpy or flabby “problem areas,” for women who are at a healthy weight, close to their goal size. Getting back into your pre-pregnancy exercise habits can be difficult after childbirth, but liposuction is most effective for women who are already working to maintain their health and get back into that rhythm.

2. The procedure is the same whether or not you have had a child

Some surgeons would say so, but unfortunately their results tell a different story. When you have a child, the hormone fluctuations and physical strain that cause those stubborn fatty patches also stretch out your abdominal muscles and change skin elasticity. “Discount” surgeons will give you the same treatment as everyone else, when you really need an approach that will address your unique post-pregnancy body.

3. Liposuction fixes cellulite, loose skin, and stretched muscles, too

Liposuction for Los Angeles mothers is best focused to address fat alone. Cellulite appears because of fibrous structures beneath the skin that liposuction cannot dissolve, and are best corrected through noninvasive cellulite treatments like VelaShape™ or SmoothShapes®.

The loose skin issue is part of the reason liposuction is not a weight loss method and not appropriate for patients who are severely obese. A loose, “flabby” appearance can be due to fat, or it can result from a combination of loose skin and stretched-out muscles.

The problem is that for many women, pregnancy affects all three areas. Hormones can leave skin too thin to regain its old shape after being stretched out, and your abdominal muscles may stay loose no matter how much you exercise because they were overstretched as the baby grew. Mommy Makeover body contouring procedures often combine Los Angeles tummy tuck and liposuction to address skin and muscle laxity along with excess fat deposits.

4. It involves severe pain, extensive scarring, and high surgical risks

From a qualified surgeon, none of these things should be true. While liposuction for moms may involve added considerations, and combination procedures like tummy tuck naturally involve more scarring, new techniques in liposuction such as power-assisted liposuction (PAL) allow surgeons to use smaller incisions and avoid the kind of rigorous movements that used to cause heavy bruising.

5. Liposuction will immediately correct all of your body issues

Even small changes can prompt a big difference in how attractive and self-confident you feel, and liposuction has definitely helped many women maintain their healthy self-image. However, body contouring is most appropriate for women with a stable, largely positive self-image.

Women who are experiencing an unhealthy level of sadness or frustration over the effects of pregnancy on their body will need to address these emotional issues before they undergo any kind of cosmetic procedure. Los Angeles cosmetic surgeries like tummy tuck and liposuction can help improve body image, certainly, but they will not transform you into an entirely new person.

Thanks for the mention that women should look at emotional issues before surgery. It’s a good idea.
