athletic liposuction Upper Body Liposuction for Women 2 Tips

By: David Stoker, MD

Upper-body liposuction is not as common as lower-body procedures, but as a Beverly Hills liposuction surgeon, I do see a number of patients who specifically want to correct upper-body areas like the bra rolls, the arms, and the fatty pockets of breast fat that sometimes appear between the arm and the breast. These procedures can actually make a subtle but important impact on your overall shape.

Tip 1: Choose procedures that will really count

You may think your arms look flabby or your bra rolls are a major letdown, but in my experience many patients presenting these concerns actually could benefit from cosmetic surgery in a different area to balance things out. A couple examples:

  • Breasts – Women whose breasts have begun to sag often will find that the area between the upper arm and the breast mound also starts to look noticeably flabby. In many cases, skin laxity and loss of breast volume are at fault, and these can be addressed through breast enlargement, but often liposuction will also be necessary to de-emphasize the area as much as possible.
  • Hips and flanks – Bra rolls can be extremely frustrating, but a lot of times they look so prominent because of a poorly-shaped waistline. Most of my upper-back liposuction patients will also have fatty patches removed from their flanks (the “love handle” area at the sides of the lower back) and / or their hips and thighs. The goal here is to create a smoother curve that will give better definition to the hips and buttocks at the same time as it de-emphasizes the upper back.

Tip 2: Recognize the advantages of small adjustments

I said that in many cases upper-body liposuction is not the “main” priority procedure, but at the same time it can often accomplish a great deal to refine the outcomes for other surgeries, such as breast enlargement. Los Angeles laser liposuction to the upper arms can often dramatically improve the look of the breasts because it eliminates the distracting folds from the underarm area.

Bottom line: Keep an open mind about your options, and choose a surgeon with experience in a full range of procedures who knows how to create a pleasing body contour.
