Cosmetic Dentistry

It’s not uncommon for me to meet people who are unhappy with their smile, but can’t pinpoint the reason why. In many cases, they may be surprised when I point out their gums. Then I tell them the good news: if receding gums are the problem, your appearance can be dramatically improved without braces or other procedures that involve many different steps over an extended period of time. The gums also can be addressed as part of a more complete Los Angeles smile makeover. Whatever the circumstances, most patients are thrilled with the improvements from their gum grafting procedure.

Reasons to Consider Gum Grafting

Receding gums aren’t just an aesthetic concern, although they can make a significant difference in your appearance. If gums have receded to the point where the root is exposed, there is increased risk of tooth decay. Gum recession can also cause tooth sensitivity to hot and cold foods or beverages or even touch e.g. brushing/flossing.

Gum grafting procedures can be performed under local anesthetic right in my office. Utilizing AlloDerm®, a human tissue derivative, means that I don’t have to remove tissue from the roof of the mouth, which has been a major drawback of gum grafting in the past. This makes recovery quicker and much more comfortable. Unlike some surgical procedures, gum grafting carries very little risk, although you should take extra care of the treated area for several days.

Gum Grafting for a Smile Makeover

Even though it is often performed by itself, gum grafting is frequently combined with other procedures. Gum grafting may be used to improve the aesthetic results of dental bridges, dental implants or other dental work.

I am from the Cayman Island but will be spending 10 days with my best friend in Ft. Lauderdale in early June. I would like to know if I could have the Alloderm Gum Grafting to my front lower incisors # 24 & 25, where over the past several years I have loss some bone. It is possible for the procedure to be accomplished within 10 day to include the consultation and the gum grafting.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
