Breast Implant Massage – Why It Matters

Breast Augmentation, New Jersey

After a breast augmentation procedure, it’s important to follow your surgeon’s recommendations for post-treatment care to ensure the long-term health and appearance of your implants. I highly recommend that all my patients massage their breasts after an enlargement procedure to improve blood flow to the region and decrease the risk of capsular contracture.

What is capsular contracture?

Capsular contracture is the hardening of scar tissue around the implants, which leads to constriction of the implant, causing pain and discomfort as well as changes to the implant shape. After severe capsular contracture develops, a secondary surgery is the only way to correct it.

Massage 101

In my experience, massaging the breasts post-surgery is the most important precaution you can take to prevent capsular contracture. To massage the breast, move the implant in the pocket at least five to six times a day for the first three months after surgery. After that you can decrease the massage time to a minute twice day. More information and details about breast implant massage are available on my Web site.

Women who have breast augmentation in Philadelphia and New Jersey should take note that, at least from my years of experience recommending this technique, massage can play a key role in creating beautiful, healthy breasts.
